The Somerset Cheddar in our Cheese Sauce Mix, and the mild sweetness from Schwartz Paprika add delicious, easy flavour to these crispy cheese straws and make them a staple in any Christmas party spread.

  • 2 blocks all butter puff pastry (500g each)
  • 100 (4 ) parmesan, finely grated
  • 1 cheddar cheese sauce
  • 4 paprika
  • 6 large egg yolks

  1. Roll out one block of puff pastry until its roughly a square, about 1/4 cm thick.

  3. In a small bowl mix the egg yolks, Schwartz Paprika and Schwartz Cheddar cheese recipe mix until it forms a paste.

  5. Brush half of the paste over the pastry, sprinkle over half the parmesan and press gently into the paste.

  7. pre-heat oven to 180 °C, 350F, Gas Mark 4.

  9. Trim the edges so you have straight lines and cut into 1cm strips and twist each one to get a classic cheese straw shape.

  11. Place on a baking tray, lined with greaseproof paper.

  13. Place in the center of pre-heated oven for 20 minutes. Turn down the temperature to 150°C and bake for another 5-10 minutes.

  15. Once cooked and golden brown, remove from the oven and leave to cool slightly, best served warm.
